ACL prepares for HRS

Date: 2008-02-13
Atlantic Container Line has made the decision to re-certify five vessels for HRS2 in 2010.
AlfaTest AB is very pleased to carry out the necessary inspections in order for the vessels to qualify for this certification.
The first phase of the process will consist of a thourough visual inspection which focuses on the BALLAST TANKS. These are the areas prone to problems and ACL has a clear desire to identify and rectify any problems that may exist.
Specifically this includes coatings, steel condition, piping and fittings. AlfaTest will produce a detailed report on their findings for each vessel, highlighting and specifically identifying any problems and giving recommendations on how to deal with them.
The second phase will involve the comprehensive thickness measurements (TM) required by Class in order to issue a certificate. This will be performed prior to docking in 2010. The goal of the ACL Technical Dept. is to be fully prepared for this docking.
HRS2 (Hull Renovation Scheme 2) is a certification from Lloyd's Register which states that the measured hull can be likened to a 10 year old ship.
This can be seen as a valuable commercial asset for each vessel.
The five vessels involved are Atlantic Compass, Atlantic Companion, Atlantic Concert, Atlantic Conveyor and Atlantic Cartier. The project will begin February 2008 and finish in 2010.

AlfaTest has strong experience with this type of work, being involved with similar projects for WALLENIUS MARINE AB, with whom it holds a long term agreement for ballast tank Condition Assessment.
